Queen Sonja to exhibit own art collection

This summer, Queen Sonja’s own art collection will be exhibited to guests from Norway and abroad at Queen Sonja’s art stable.

Queen Sonja of Norway has been collecting arts and crafts since her teens. This summer’s exhibition will be open until November and show 100 works by 50 artists from the Queen’s own art collection. Queen Sonja’s art collection consists of more than 1,600 works. It was collected over a period of more than 65 years and contains mainly contemporary art.

Those who visit Oslo Royal Palace this year will for the first time be able to see a room never before shown to the public. The White Salon has been restored and will now be open to the public in the summertime. When the palace was completed in 1849, the White Salon was the Queen’s audience room. The room in white and gold was the palace’s most expensive, in relation to its size.

The salon was completed for the State Visit from the Netherlands in November last year when it was used for the gift exchange. The White Salon was also where the official photos of Princess Ingrid Alexandra were taken on the occasion of her 18th birthday.

In the summertime, Oslo’s Royal Palace is opened to the public as King Harald and Queen Sonja exchange residences for the royal farm at Bygdøy right on the outskirts of the Norwegian capital. From late June until mid-August the Palace can be visited. All visitors follow a guided tour which takes guests through some of the Palace’s most important rooms.
