Princess Charlene’s style nod to the Tour de France as she marks its return

Princess Charlene of Monaco adopted the famous yellow of the Tour de France as she helped get the famous cycling contest under way in Nice this weekend.

Charlene, alongside her husband Prince Albert II, travelled to the French city for the first stage of the race which is finally taking place after being put on hold earlier this summer because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The princess chose a bright yellow jacket for the occasion, a nod to the colour used throughout the Tour. The leader of the race famously wears the yellow vest for the stages where they hold pole position.

The royal couple helped the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and his wife, Laura Tenoudji, cut a ribbon at the pretend start of the race before heading off to see the contest get going for real. Albert and Charlene also watched the stage of the women’s race and attended the podium ceremony for that contest.

Princess Charlene was accompanied by MMA champion, Conor McGregor, and his partner, Dee Devlin. Charlene and Conor will take part in a water bike challenge in a fortnight’s time in which they will compete on opposing teams in a 180 kilometre challenge across the Mediterranean. The contest will raise awareness of the causes supported by the Princess Charlene Foundation.
