Prince Henrik of Denmark, Count of Monpezat was born on 4 May 2009 in the Rigshospitalet as the first child of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. He has two older brothers through his father’s first marriage to Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg: Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix. He has a younger sister, Princess Athena who was born in 2012.
Like with his siblings and cousins before him, his name was not announced until his christening on 26 July 2009 at Møgeltønder Church, where his parents were married in 2008. His full name was revealed as Henrik Carl Joachim Alain. His first name was in honour of his paternal grandfather, Prince Henrik. His middle names of Joachim and Alain were in honour of his father and maternal grandfather, respectively. His Highness’s godparents are his paternal aunt, Crown Princess Mary; maternal uncle, Charles Cavallier; maternal uncle, Benjamin Grandet; Britt Davidsen Siesbye; and Christian Scherfig.
The ninth in line to the Danish throne currently attends Sct. Joseph Søstrenes Skole; this is a private Catholic school located in Ordrup, Denmark.
The Prince occasionally attends official events with his parents, and he travelled with them to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the summer of 2016 for the Olympic Games. While there, Henrik helped his uncle, Crown Prince Frederik cut the ribbon to open the Danish Pavilion on Ipanema Beach.
He also gave his first, but brief, interview when he and Athena joined their father for the opening of Fjord & Bælt’s newly renovated underwater tunnel in March. Prince Henrik cut the ribbon for the opening and told Billed Bladet, “That we could touch it and feed it. It was very funny,” when they asked him what he enjoyed about being near the whale, Frøya.
Surprisingly, no new images were released by the Royal Danish House this morning on the occasion of his eighth birthday.
