As it has been now a tradition for some years, the Danish Royal Household has created a “digital” advent calendar, each year with a different theme. 2022 was no exception, and as December began, the first post was created.
This year, it consists of a video of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, creating a candle wreath.
The siblings are seen putting down what looks like clay around a Christmas candle on a tray. They then proceed to decorate that tray by sticking branches, pinecones and sparkly ornaments in the clay.
The video also features a moment with Prince Vincent tasting one of the biscuits on a plate; it looks like a simple, round sugar biscuit, but there was also a choice of what looked like gingerbread cookies.
At the end, it is Princess Josephine that lights a match and transfers the flame to the candle, which, according to Danish tradition, will burn for the next 24 days.
The accompanying caption says that the video was shot in the basement of Frederik VIII Palace, in the Amalienborg complex, located in the centre of Denmark’s capital.
The Danish Royal Household has created a new page of their website that will be entirely dedicated to this digital advent calendar, unlocking a new piece of content every day from the 1st to the 24th of December included.
This holiday season wraps up a special year for the country, as, after many postponements, they managed to celebrate the Golden Jubilee for Queen Margrethe. They also made headlines around the world when Her Majesty announced her decision to remove titles from her youngest son’s children, much to Prince Joachim’s dismay.
