Denmark’s Prince Nikolai to talk on TV about being royal just before he loses his title

Prince Nikolai of Denmark has been the centre of attention this autumn after it became known that his grandmother, Queen Margrethe, will take away the prince and princess titles from him and his siblings next year.

On Tuesday, it emerged that Prince Nikolai is participating in a special episode of Emil Erichsen’s new program, entitled “My own course.”

Earlier this year, the Prince visited the Danish celebrity Emil Erichsen on the boat Havana, which turned into a TV program scheduled to be broadcast in the spring. Now Danish TV2 has moved the planned release of the documentary.

The program was only supposed to be broadcast in the spring, but TV2 has decided to move the documentary with Prince Nikolai to be aired earlier.

The special episode will be broadcast on 19 December, both digitally and on TV, at 10.30 pm; it is planned to follow TV2’s popular program “The Royal Moments,” which looks back on the year in the Danish Royal Family.

In the program, Prince Nikolai talks to Mikkel Beha Erichsen’s son, Emil Midé Erichsen, about how it feels to be born into the role of a prince in the Royal House while they sail on the legendary boat Havana.

The show was recorded before the announcement about Prince Joachim’s children’s royal titles being removed beginning in 2023. Nevertheless, there is much curiosity regarding what the Prince says about the relationship with his princely title.

When the program was recorded in May, the Queen had not yet announced that Prince Nikolai, like his siblings, would lose his princely title on 1 January 2023. It will, therefore, be both touching and interesting to hear Prince Nikolai talk about his princely role.

Through his mother, Countess Alexandra, Prince Nikolai has issued the following statement: “I am not used to sailing and diving, so it was a challenging trip, which also included good and deep conversations. Emil was good to talk to and to create a relaxed atmosphere.”
