Keeping up with Anne between March 10th
and 17th was, for once, relatively straight forward. Basically, if
you headed to Cheltenham you were more than likely to bump into the
horse loving princess as she attended one of the most famous racing
festivals in the world.
On the 20th March 1974, Princess Anne was
returning to Buckingham Palace from a charity event when their car
was forced to stop on The Mall. Once the car came to a standstill,
an armed assailant, Ian Ball, began firing a pistol. Anne’s
