Prince Andrew still believes he can resume his public life, royal commentator tells The Royal Beat

True Royalty TV

The latest episode of True Royalty’s The Royal Beat largely focuses on Prince Andrew and his now settled court case.

According to Daily Mirror Royal Editor Russel Myers, Prince Andrew still believes he can resume his public life. He told The Royal Beat: “The language used in this [settlement] statement is that Prince Andrew will be helping sex trafficking victims. Is this him positioning himself to try and reinvent himself in the eyes of the public? Speaking to friends of his this week – they say he still feels he has a lot to offer public life again. I still believe that he is the only person on the planet that believes that [apart from] possibly Fergie and possibly the Queen. He is only 61, but it is impossible to see how he could have any future. His daughter Princess Eugenie founded and helped run a charity for victims of trafficking. Maybe he sees that as an avenue because possibly his family are the only ones who think they can help him at this stage.”

Georgina Calvert-Lee, Head of UK Practice at legal firm McAllister Olivarius told The Royal Beat: “Usually you settle
because you think you are going to be caught out.”

Russel Myers added: “That is the basis of it. He has been brought to this juncture because The Queen and Prince Charles have said he has to sort this out. He has been brought to this stage kicking and screaming, and I don’t think he even thinks he has carried himself incorrectly – because that is the mark of the man.”

Sunday Times Royal Editor Roya Nikkhah added: “The timing of this was very interesting. The Queen will have known what this week was going to look like. She would have known that when that settlement was announced, all hell was going to break loose, [with] the front covers and pages and pages of negative headlines about her family and Prince Andrew. I think the Queen is fully aware, as are those around her, that the image of
her soldiering on and meeting with the ingoing and outgoing defence chiefs, her acknowledging that life goes on is a little a bit comforting for some people when her family is in turmoil. The head of the family is still able to project a positive image. People will take a lot of heart that while the house of Windsor is in turmoil, the head of the house is carrying on.”
