The Duke of Edinburgh led a long life of public service as the longest-serving consort in British history. During their royal visit to Canada in July 1997, The Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with 45 other couples who were also marking their golden anniversary. Later that year, she would call Philip her ‘strength and stay’ throughout her life.
