The Duchess of Sussex put an end to links with her father in 2025 with Meghan writing to him then to say she wanted nothing more to do with him.
The revelation, first published in The Sun on Sunday, comes as Thomas Markle Snr denies allegations of possessing images of children being sexually abused. Late last week, it was reported that images of abuse of minors were found amongst his possessions in the Philippines.
The latest development sees The Sun on Sunday reporting that the Duchess of Sussex sent her father a letter last year in which she said she knew about allegations against him and that he would never meet her children.
The accusations first came to light last week when Thomas Markle’s son, Tom Markle Jnr, told the same newspaper that he had found images of child sex abuse in his father’s possessions in the Philippines. He said he had told the FBI about it in July with the Federal Bureau of Investigations confirming later that it was aware of the allegations.
Following the reports, the Duchess of Sussex issued a statement in which she said that she had received a letter in 2018, soon after her marriage to Prince Harry, outlining the allegations against her father.
Meghan said the letter had been passed to her along with assurances that the allegations in it were being investigated.
In her statement, Meghan said her thoughts were ”with any children who may have been harmed”. She said that the allegations were ”more sickening that one could ever imagine”. And she said that she had stopped her father having contact with her own two children to protect them, adding that she ”’trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other children”.
The letter in question was passed to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the Metropolitan Police. It was later confirmed that the letter had been sent to the Duchess in 2019, and not in 2018 as she had first said.
A day after the Duchess of Sussex released her statement, the Metropolitan Police issued a statement to say it had received a letter making claims about Thomas Markle Snr in 2019. It confirmed that it had not passed on the details of the alleged offences, which are said to have taken place outside the UK, to overseas authorities.
As the allegations have been made about material found in the Philippines, Filipino police are now investigating.
Thomas Markle Snr has denied all the allegations against him.
