Prince Joachim of Denmark, 51, has received an enormous amount of well-wishes after his emergency brain surgery on Friday in France.
The Danish social media channels have been flooded with thousands of get-well messages for the royal since the announcement was made over the weekend. Danish politicians have also sent their thoughts to the royal on social media, and Liberal Party Chairman Jakob Ellemann-Jensen said on Twitter: “Wishing a really good recovery for HRH Prince Joachim! And all good thoughts to HRH Princess Marie, all the children and the rest of the Royal Family.”
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Facebook: “Today I have sent a greeting to HRH Prince Joachim with the wish for a good recovery. My warmest thoughts to Her Majesty the Queen, Princess Marie, all four children and the rest of the royal family in this difficult time.”
On Saturday, the Royal House announced that Queen Margrethe’s younger son had undergone emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain. The surgery was successful, and the Prince was said to still be in stable condition at Toulouse University Hospital on Sunday.
The Royal House said that they had no further information and added: “It is the wish of Her Majesty The Queen that the public respects the privacy of the family during the hospitalization. Her Royal Highness Princess Marie is with her husband.”
It is not known how long the Prince will be hospitalised.
Prince Joachim and his family were on holiday at the Danish Royal Family’s French residence, Château de Cayx, at the time of the health incident and had just celebrated his second son, Prince Felix’s 18th birthday on 22 July.
