The Queen has been on the throne for over 65 years, and through those many decades, she has been able to maintain a healthy weight – even with so many royal banquets, dinners and events.
So, how does she keep her weight down? Her Majesty recently revealed her secret during a luncheon party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
According to Sebastien Shakespeare at the Daily Mail, she told one of the guests that she made a change in her diet to avoid eating too many potatoes.
She revealed the diet to Guy Singh-Watson, the founder of organic vegetable box delivery company Riverford, during a discussion about diabetes and diet. “The Queen said she doesn’t eat many potatoes,” he said.
Singh-Watson added, “We were talking about vegetables because, of course, that’s my stock in trade. She just amazes me; her broad interest and knowledge is extraordinary.”
Her Majesty spoke at the lunch about her concerns regarding food, farming, and different environmental issues, as well.
The guests, who also included Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall and Oxford Professor Yadvinder Malhi, dined on prawns to start and then had pheasant as the main course.
In the past, former royal chef Darren McGrady has said, “The Queen’s not really bothered about food. The chefs and food and kitchens come last. They’re still using pots and pans from the 1800s, with the Queen Victoria stamp on them.”
He’s also shared that some of Her Majesty’s favourite foods include scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and a grating of truffle. And like so many of us, she has a weakness for chocolate!
