The Princess of Wales reflects on new beginnings

The Princess of Wales has released a special message ahead of her Together at Christmas carol service airing on Christmas Eve, dedicating the service to those who look out for the youngest generation.

In a new message shared from Kensington Palace, Catherine relates the birth of Jesus to supporting the early years. “The arrival of every baby is a precious and momentous time, it brings us together to reflect on new beginnings and brings hope for the future.”

She continued: “Throughout our earliest interactions, relationships and experiences, with those who love us, even before we are born, we lay the foundations to so much of what that future will depend on. But only by valuing and supporting the vital role of the adults in a child’s world can we hope to make a difference.”

The guests at this year’s Together at Christmas carol service included families—parents, carers—and educators, healthcare workers involved in the early years, and volunteers, as well as charities involved in the early years sector.

Catherine said that they were invited “in recognition of their support of our youngest children, as we shine a spotlight on the critical role they play in nurturing and raising the future generation.”

Catherine thanked those in attendance “for all you do in helping the very youngest members of our communities feel safe, valued and loved.”

The carol service took place on 8 December at Westminster Abbey. Members of the British Royal Family were in attendance as well, and performers included Adam Lambert, Beverly Knight, Jacob Collier. Readings were given by Prince William, Jim Broadbent, and others; while a special poem from the Children’s Laureate was read to the guests, in keeping with the early years theme.

The Princess of Wales shared a holiday greeting, signing off with: “I do hope you enjoy this evening and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.”

Together at Christmas, now in its third year, airs on Christmas Eve on ITV.
