Prince & Princess of Wales

The new Princess of Wales makes an emotional pledge as she takes on historic role

The new Princess of Wales has pledged to look to the future as she takes on her new role.

King Charles III made his elder son Prince of Wales today, one of the first acts of his new reign. It means that Catherine is now the first person to be known as Princess of Wales in over a quarter of a century. She now carries the title so associated with her mother in law, Diana.

The King announced his decision during his televised address to the nation, broadcast at 6pm on September 9th 2022.

Following the announcement, a source close to the new Prince and Princess of Wales said ”The new Princess of Wales appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”

They also said ”The Prince and Princess of Wales will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they’ve approached their work previously.”

William and Catherine lived in Wales in the early years of their marriage and made their first family home there with Prince George.

Their children now take the titles Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales.

Diana held the title of Princess of Wales for fifteen years, from her marriage in 1981 until her divorce in 1996. The new Queen Consort, Camilla, never used the title and was instead known as Duchess of Cornwall.

Catherine is only the tenth woman to be known by the title Princess of Wales.
