The Prince of Wales said he was “bowled over” by the multi-million pound deal with an Earthshot Prize winner and major sporting venues in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Friday.
William paid a visit to the Kia Oval Cricket Ground in London on Friday to meet with the teams at Notpla and Levy UK + Ireland after Notpla signed a massive deal with Levy UK + Ireland to bring their seaweed-based food containers to more than 50 sporting venues over the next three years.
According to the Kensington Palace, these venues include the London 02 Arena, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, and Twickenham Stadium, and will expand to other venues, ultimately culminating in more than 75 million plastic-free disposable packages used throughout the three-year partnership.
“We’re excited to drive real change and replace millions of single-use plastic items with our natural packaging made from the ocean’s own resources – today’s news is a true milestone in making that happen,” said the team at Notpla on their Instagram account.
On the Kensington Palace social media, William shared that he was “bowled over by Notpla’s fantastic new partnership with Levy UK + Ireland.”
He added: “This is the Earthshot Prize in action—supporting incredible solutions to scale as we work together to protect and restore our planet by 2030!”
William played a pivotal role in helping secure Notpla’s new partnership: during a visit to their London headquarters last year, the royal spoke with the team at Levy about the 2022 Earthshot Prize winners.
Notpla won the ‘Build a Waste-Free World’ Earthshot Prize in 2022, having scaled-up its operations to eliminate single-use plastic containers.
During his visit to the Kia Oval Cricket Club, William also met with cricketers from Surrey who are using the venue to train, and with the caretakers looking after the venue.
