Prince & Princess of Wales

All is fair in love and competition for William and Catherine

For years, we’ve seen the Prince and Princess of Wales go head to head in all kinds of contest with one another. From sports to baking, everything is on the table when it comes to a William and Catherine fun filled royal off. Whether it’s games or a cheeky snowball fight, here’s a look back at some of the times we’ve seen the future king and queen get a little competitive with one another.

2023: Spin Race in Wales

It was at a local fitness center in Port Talbot, Wales where we saw Will and Kate battle it out on spin cycles. The couple, now the Prince and Princess of Wales, were challenged to a 45-second endurance race.

Catherine took the win and was awarded a small trophy for beating her husband. She did give him a conciliatory pat for his efforts.

2022: Sailing in the Bahamas

In March of 2022 during a visit to Montagu Beach in The Bahamas during the Platinum Jubilee tour of the Caribbean, we saw Will and Catherine battle it out in a sailing competition.

Fighting through a rain storm to honor Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th year on the throne, William’s crew ended up beating Catherine’s. At a reception to close out their visit, William spoke of how the competition reminded him of his late grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, saying “Catherine and I were thinking about him today as we celebrated the return of sloop sailing here by racing off Montagu Beach. He would have been in his element!” he said. “As for the race result? Discretion is the better part of valor. Particularly if you have won, and your wife has come last.”

2019: A kitchen bake-off

During a special Christmas cooking programme hosted by The Great British Bake Off‘s Mary Berry, William and Catherine went head-to-head to see who could best decorate a festive roulade.

William needed some help from one of the contest’s most famous winners, baker Nadiya Hussain. Ultimately, it ended up being a tie between the two.

2018: A snowball for you, a snowball for me

The royal couple were seen throwing snowballs at each other during their visit to the Holmenkollen Ski Arena in Oslo, Norway.

2017: A hockey shootout and a race fit for royalty

During a February visit to the London Marathon Community Track at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, William and Catherine took on Prince Harry in a race. They had joined volunteers of the Heads Together umbrella charity who were training for the 2017 London Marathon.

Heads Together works to make sure people feel comfortable with their own friends and family as well as their everyday mental health and well-being. Just a month prior in Sweden, William challenged Catherine to a hockey shootout while visiting an outdoor skating rink at Vasaparken Park in Stockholm.

2016: Cut out for the football team?

During a royal tour of India and Bhutan, William and Catherine kicked a football around.

Of course, the sport is nothing new for the pair as they are seen attending matches with their children.

2014: Some cricket and sailing ‘Down Under’

During a visit to New Zealand, Catherine beat William during a sailing race. William was partnered with Team New Zealand manager Grant Dalton while Catherine sailed away with Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker.

On the same visit, they got into a friendly cricket competition. Catherine showed it’s possible to play a match while in a skirt and heels.

2013: A round of ping pong

In April of 2013, just months before Prince George was born, in a dress and heels, the then-Duchess of Cambridge took on her husband during a game of ping pong while visiting the Donald Dewar Leisure Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

2011: Pancake flippin’ in Northern Ireland

Just a month before the world watched the lovebirds get married, William and the future princess, paid a visit to the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. During a walkabout, their pancake-flipping skills were challenged. William mastered a double flip while Catherine managed a single flip to the approval of well-wishers.
