The Prince of Wales has taken on a new patronage with very special links.
William is now the Royal Patron of the Wales Air Ambulance charity with the announcement made on the eve of his first St. David’s Day as Prince of Wales.
The prince spent several years as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance and has often spoken of the vital work done by forces across the UK.
The Wales Air Ambulance charity was set up on St. David’s Day in 2001 and has four bases across the country at Caernarfon, Llanelli, Cardiff and Welshpool. It helps people in some of the most extreme medical emergencies and has completed almost 45,000 missions since it began.
Sue Barnes, Chief Executive of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity said ”The Prince has first-hand experience of working in the unique and often challenging air ambulance environment.’‘
Referring to the Blue Light Together mental health support programme launched by the Royal Foundation, Sue Barnes said ”his work, along with The Princess, in highlighting the need for mental health support for frontline emergency workers is something that is appreciated and wholeheartedly supported by our charity. We look forward to our new relationship with The Prince as our charity continues to support a lifesaving service for the people of Wales.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales visited the headquarters of the charity soon after the patronage was confirmed.
