The Queen makes ‘generous’ donation to Ukraine humanitarian appeal

The Queen has made a ‘generous donation’ to a Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal as the invasion of Ukraine by Russia continues.

The Disasters Emergency Committee revealed the donation on March 3rd 2022, tweeting: “Many thanks to Her Majesty The Queen for continuing to support the Disasters Emergency Committee and for making a generous donation to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.”

The DEC is comprised of 15 UK aid charities that come together quickly in times of emergency to launch appeals for humanitarian causes. They say the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal will provide food, water, shelter, healthcare and protection to the families who had to flee their homes with only what they could carry on their person.

The DEC has charity partners in the Ukraine and bordering countries like Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, to provide key, critical aid as needed.

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail revealed that the Duchess of Cornwall had donated to its Ukraine Refugee Appeal, with Camilla’s spokesperson telling the newspaper, “No one could fail to be moved by the appalling scenes of Ukrainians fleeing their homes and the duchess wanted to help in whatever way she could.”

The Daily Mail reported that they understand Prince Charles has donated to two of his patronages, the British Red Cross and World Jewish Relief; while The Telegraph reported that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have made a private donation to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal as well.

The ongoing situation in Ukraine has been at the forefront of royal engagements this week, with Prince Charles condemning the invasion during two separate engagements. He and Camilla paid a visit to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London, where they met with British-based Ukrainians.

Camilla told the Ambassador’s wife that they are “praying for you” while Prince Charles said that they were moved by the “extraordinary bravery, generosity and fortitude of the Ukrainian community in the face of such truly terrible aggression.”
