The Prince of Wales has said his prayers remain with the people of Ukraine, exactly one month after the Russian invasion began.
Speaking at the start of his visit to the Republic of Ireland, the Prince said ”our thoughts, and I am sure your thoughts and prayers, ladies and gentlemen, however inadequate they may be, are with the people of Ukraine as they continue to face such uncertainty and brutal aggression.”
Charles’ comments came as he arrived in Waterford at the start of a tour to mark the Platinum Jubilee. Along with the the Duchess of Cornwall, he was given a warm welcome with large crowds turning out to greet the pair in the spring sunshine.
They were treated to a re-enactment of a Viking battle as they made their first stop in Ireland’s oldest city.
They were also guests of honour at a mayoral reception where Charles spoke out about Ukraine. In his speech, he also touched on the impact of the invasion on so many lives, adding ”It has been most moving to meet members of Waterford’s Ukrainian community here today and to learn of the actions that your county is taking to support them. Such times as we are living through bring into sharp relief the importance of peace and friendship, which history tells us we can too easily take for granted.”
