The Duke of Cambridge undertook the Colonel’s Review ahead of Trooping the Colour this week, capping off rehearsals for the kick-off to the Platinum Jubilee weekend.
William, who is Colonel of the Irish Guards, conducted the Colonel’s Review—a final dress rehearsal for Trooping the Colour—at Horse Guards Parade in London. The Colonel of the Home Guard regiment that is trooping the colour at The Queen’s official birthday each year is asked to carry out this final review ahead of the main parade. The last time William carried out this duty was in 2017.
Last week, William presented the Irish Guards with new colours at Windsor Castle, telling those gathered that “I am honoured as your Colonel, to be representing Her Majesty The Queen today, and to present your tenth set of new Colours in the Platinum Jubilee year of The Queen, your Colonel-in-Chief.”
The Colonel’s Review comes on the heels of unconfirmed reports that The Queen will not receive the salute at Horse Guards on Thursday, instead delegating the task to Prince Charles, William, and Princess Anne. The three will be riding in Trooping the Colour as Colonels of the Welsh Guards, the Irish Guards, and the Blues and Royals, respectively.
Trooping the Colour will kick off The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on 2 June, with events taking place throughout the long weekend, culminating with a Platinum Jubilee Pageant on 5 June outside Buckingham Palace.
