The Duchess of Cambridge will return to work next week with a visit to the King Henry’s Walk Garden in Islington.
Kensington Palace announced yesterday that Kate will visit the Garden next week and will meet with volunteers “to hear about the benefits of this urban green space.” Her Royal Highness will travel to visit the Islington Community Garden on Tuesday, 15 January.
Opened in 2007, the King Henry’s Walk Garden is cultivated by local residents who use organic gardening methods “to promote a diversity of plants and wildlife” and has “a full programme of educational sessions and events engage the whole community.”
The Garden has been helpful among those who use it in reducing anti-social behaviours and vandalism in the area.
Her Royal Highness will also “be shown some of their allotment plots to see the impact that can be achieved in small scale plots,” and will join in on a winter planting workshop, bird box building, and will help make pizza in the Garden’s kitchen.
The King Henry’s Walk Garden has received many awards over the years, including the RHS National Certificate of Distinction in 2012, and London in Bloom’s Best Community Garden in 2008, 2009, and 2011.
The last public appearance for the Duchess of Cambridge was last year on Christmas Day alongside other members of the British Royal Family when they attended the traditional church service.
The royals have gradually begun their royal duties again in 2019 with the Duke of Cambridge due to have his first event of the year today. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will begin their 2019 royal duties when they visit the town of Birkenhead, Merseyside next Monday, 14 January. The Prince of Wales’s official duties started on New Year’s Day.
