The Coronation to take over 10 Downing Street

King Charles III with UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will host a Coronation Big Lunch at 10 Downing Street.

The PM will join thousands of other organisers across the UK in setting up a community celebration in his back garden to mark the crowning of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The Coronation will take over 10 Downing Street during the celebratory weekend which includes a special Bank Holiday, announced by the Prime Minister last year.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6th 2023 and the Big Coronation Lunch is set to take place on May 7th, with thousands of event already planned across the country.

The lunch at 10 Downing Street will be added to an interactive map launched by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The online chart allows people to show their Coronation celebrations by pinning them to the map. It will build a picture of how the special weekend is being marked across the UK and let people find events going on near them.

As the map launched, Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said “Our interactive map will help you find activities, events and celebrations nearby. Whether you’re hosting a street party, planning a Big Lunch, a screening or activity for the Big Help Out, we want to hear from you.

The map is on the official Coronation website which has been live for several months.

As well as Coronation Big Lunches, there will be a Help Out day on May 8th 2023 to celebrate the work of volunteers.
