The Home Secretary Amber Rudd has confirmed that she has given the green light for pubs to stay open late for the royal wedding.
Ms Rudd has made the order for two nights of extended opening times on the weekend of the wedding in May so people can celebrate the occasion.
The Home Secretary said: “The royal wedding is a chance for communities across the country to join together and celebrate this momentous and happy occasion for our royal family and for our nation.
“As shown by the support for the proposal to extend licensing hours, it’s clear that the public back the idea of having more time to raise a glass to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a day of national celebration.”
The announcement means that pubs, bars and other licensed premises can keep on serving alcohol until 1am – a two-hour extension to the normal licencing arrangements.
The extra hours will take place on Friday, May 18th and Saturday, May 19th – the day of the wedding.

It last happened for The Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016 and for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get married on Saturday 19th May at in St George’s Chapel located in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
The choice of venue means the wedding will be a much smaller affair than that of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 when they got married at Westminster Abbey.
