Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen, Princess Anne and Prince William to come together for a week of summer engagements in Scotland

The Queen will be joined by the Princess Royal and the Duke of Cambridge late next week for a series of engagements in Scotland.

Each year, Her Majesty visits Scotland for what is known as ‘Holyrood Week’ – a time where she travels the country conducting various engagements.

This year, the 95-year-old monarch will be supported by her daughter and her grandson.

In 2021, Holyrood Week will take place between Monday 28th June and Thursday 1st July 2021.

Over the four days, The Queen will undertake a range of engagements celebrating Scottish community, innovation and history.

During her visit, the monarch will stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse – the Sovereign’s official residence in Scotland.

The Duke of Cambridge will join his grandmother for engagements on Monday 28th June, and by Princess Anne for engagements on Wednesday 30th June and Thursday 1st July.

Due to the need to avoid crowds gathering, exact details of engagements are not being released in advance.

However, Buckingham Palace has revealed that Her Majesty will visit Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, to see businesses, charities and cultural institutions.

Her Majesty will pay particular attention and how these organisations are working to further community engagement, education, technology, and efforts to combat climate change.

The Queen undertakes a series of public engagements in Scotland at the end of June or beginning of July every year, and remains in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse throughout.

Traditionally, as part of Holyrood Week, Her Majesty hosts Garden Party and Investiture ceremony at the Palace. However, in line with current guidelines, these large scale events will not take place this year.

In 2020, the entire visit to Scotland was cancelled due to the seriousness of the global health emergency and travel restrictions on crossing the boarder between England and Scotland.
