Queen Elizabeth IIThe Kents

The Queen is joined by the Duke of Kent for Trooping the Colour at Windsor Castle

The Queen has been joined by her cousin, the Duke of Kent, for Trooping the Colour at Windsor Castle.

The event, which has been scaled back for a second consecutive year, was held in the Quadrangle to celebrate the monarch’s 95th birthday.

The Queen travelled from Cornwall overnight via the Royal Train to attend the ceremony, after hosting world leaders at the G7 Summit on Friday.

At the age of 85, the Duke of Kent attended the ceremony wearing his full military uniform and bearskin.

The Duke is Colonel of the Scots Guard – a post he has held since 1974.

This year’s ceremony lasted for around half an hour, and saw F Company Scots Guards Troop the Colour of the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards.

In total, 274 people were on parade in addition to 70 horses, making it slightly larger to 2020’s parade which only saw 85 on parade.

The event ended with a 41 gun salute and a flypast by the Red Arrows.

On Sunday, The Queen will once again be busy as she hosts President Biden and the First Lady at Windsor Castle.
