Special exhibition showcasing The Queen is extended in homage to Her late Majesty

The Queen visits Coronation Street

A special exhibition showcasing the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is to be extended in homage to Her late Majesty.

The exhibition, which has opened in Trafford, was originally planned as a celebration of the monarch’s 70-years on the throne. It has now been extended as a tribute to the late Sovereign.

Titled ‘Happy and Glorious’, the exhibition will feature many items that tie the Queen with the borough, including a souvenir programme from her coronation in 1953, and some pieces of memorabilia from the Golden Jubilee in 2002.

There will also be plenty of photographs, which include her most recent visit to the borough in 2021, when she stopped at Coronation Street to mark the 60th anniversary of the popular ITV soap opera.

But there are also pieces on display that have marked the history of the affection that the people of Trafford had for the Queen. There will be a series of items related to the street parties that were organised in the borough for the 1953 coronation, including a programme specifically dedicated to children, and tickets for the various events of the day.

Trafford is classified as a metropolitan borough in the Greater Manchester area – famous for being home to Coronation Street and the Old Trafford stadium that is the home of football club Manchester United.

The exhibition is hosted in the Trafford Local Studies Centre, located on the ground floor of the Waterside House, in the area of Sale.

Opening hours for the Centre are Mondays from 10am to 7pm, Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. It is not clear how long the exhibition will run for.
