Princess Anne: ”it was an honour and a privilege” to be with Queen Elizabeth II on her final journey home

The Princess Royal has spoken of how humbled she feels seeing the love expressed for Queen Elizabeth II during the final journey from Scotland to London.

Princess Anne said ”it has been an honour and a privilege” to have accompanied her late mother as her coffin was taken from Balmoral to Edinburgh and then to London.

The Princess has been with the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II throughout every stage of her final journey.

In a statement issued as the plane bringing Her Late Majesty from her Scottish capital to her English one made its final approach, the Princess said ”witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.”

The Princess Royal added ”We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss.”

Princess Anne revealed she had been with The Queen when she died, saying ”I was fortunate enough to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life.”

And she ended with words of deep affection and respect for the new King, saying ”I am so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.”

But her final words were deeply moving. The Princess Royal said ”To my mother, The Queen, thank you.”
