Prince Charles teams up with Princess Anne for his first engagement post-Covid

Princess Anne has joined Prince Charles for his first in-person engagement since he contracted Covid-19 for a second time.

The Prince of Wales and The Princess Royal were at St. James’s Palace in Westminster to give out The Queen’s Anniversary Prizes. After presenting the awards,on February 17 2022, both royals spent time chatting with winners in the Queen Anne Room. While not often on engagements together, Charles and Anne looked to be enjoying their time together.

The Queen’s Anniversary Prizes are given out every two years, and “celebrate excellence, innovation and public benefit in work carried out by UK colleges and universities.” The prizes were established in 1994, and there have been 296 awards given out in 28 years. It is a non-monetary prize, and institutions can submit their work to be considered for the prize.

This round of prize winners includes the University of Bradford for their work in using new virtual technologies in understanding and visualising archaeological sites lost to time and natural disaster, and Anglia Ruskin University for their work focusing on using music therapy to help those with dementia and to push for policy changes at all levels.

It was announced that Prince Charles had again tested positive for the virus on 10 February, and was forced to cancel engagements in Winchester to self-isolate. While the Prince was able to leave isolation, Clarence House announced on Monday, 14 February that the Duchess of Cornwall had since tested positive herself and will be self-isolating.

Charles has also had to postpone engagements in Newport and Swansea on Friday, 18 February due to potential dangers from Storm Eunice. This was also the first time the Prince of Wales has been seen since the Metropolitan Police Service’s announcement this week that they will be investigating allegations that his charitable foundation offered honours for cash donations through his former aide, Michael Fawcett.
