One of Camilla’s favourite authors designs Platinum Jubilee T-shirt

One of the Duchess of Cornwall’s favourite authors has designed a special edition Platinum Jubilee t-shirt featuring two of his most iconic characters.

Charles Mackesy, the celebrated children’s author, illustrator and artist behind The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse has designed a Platinum Jubilee t-shirt featuring the boy and the mole sitting on a heart-shaped Union Jack with the words “Thank You Ma’am” written underneath and “1952-2022” written above the characters.

Camilla chose The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse as one of her first books for The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room, describing it as “warm, funny, profoundly moving and beautifully illustrated, this charming book leaves you feeling better about the world.”

Mackesy described the four characters, who spend the book discussing profound topics like life, friendship and their place in the universe, as “different parts of the same person,” in an interview for The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room.

“The inquisitive boy, the mole who’s enthusiastic but a bit greedy, the fox who’s been hurt so is withdrawn from life, slow to trust but wants to be part of things, and the horse who’s the wisest bit, the deepest part of you, the soul.”

Camilla launched her eponymous reading room in January 2021 as a way to engage book lovers and non-readers to find literature from all genres and connect with the authors who wrote them.

One of Camilla’s main focuses with her royal work is the promotion of literacy, especially in young people, and she frequently chooses children’s books to include in each season of the Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room.

Mackesy’s t-shirt will be available for sale in the Royal Collection Trust shop, both online and at their storefronts, from 12 May and can be purchased at Royal Parks over Jubilee Weekend.
