The King offered some warm words of encouragement to the United Kingdom’s Eurovision entrant for 2023 during a visit to Liverpool on Wednesday.
Joined by Queen Camilla, The King toured the set of the Eurovision Song Content which is due to be hosted in the UK for the first time in 25 years.
After unveiling the set, The King and Queen met with the hosts of this year’s contest, as well as Mae Muller – the UK’s entrant.
Queen Camilla told Muller that there was “no pressure”, to which Muller replied: “It feels like a good energy this year, no nil points.”
She added: “As long as I can get up there and say it’s the best I’ve ever done it, I’ll be pleased.”‘
King Charles told the 25-year-old that: “We’ll be watching with great interest, egging you on.”
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual music competition that sees nations from across Europe and beyond compete against each other.
Watched by an estimated 160 million people worldwide, it is one of the biggest entertainment events in existence.
The UK is hosting on behalf of Ukraine who were supposed to present the show following their success in 2022.
However, due to the ongoing war, it is impossible for Ukraine to host, meaning the UK will offer assistance.
Ukrainian TV presenter Julia Sanina will lead the coverage, alongside Scott Mills Rylan Clark and Hannah Waddingham.
The presenters also met Their Majesties in Liverpool during the royal visit.
