The King and Queen visit the Eurovison Song Contest in Liverpool ahead of the musical spectacular next month

The next few of weeks promise to be action packed for residents of the United Kingdom. Not only will King Charles III celebrate his Coronation in early May, but the UK will also host the Eurovision Song Contest – the first time since 1998.

Staged in Liverpool, the UK will host on behalf of last year’s winner – Ukraine – who are unable to host themselves due to the ongoing war in the country.

Ahead of the musical spectacular which will see dozens of countries compete against one another, King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Liverpool to unveil the set.

On arrival at the arena, the King and Queen met the Director-General of the BBC, Tim Davie, as well as Director of BBC Content, Charlotte Moore and Managing Director BBC Eurovision 2023, Martin Green.

Their Majesties then toured the backstage area of the set, seeing first hand the the control desk and meeting staff and apprentices preparing the Arena as a worldwide audience of 160 million prepare to tune in.

Their Majesties met the hosts of Eurovision 2023: Julia Sanina, Scott Mills, Rylan Clark and Hannah Waddingham, before being introduced to the UK’s entrant – Mae Muller.

The King told Muller that he and Camilla will be “watching with great interest, egging you on.”
