Queen Camilla champions favourite cause in historic solo audience

Queen Camilla has put one of her great passions at the heart of her first solo audience as consort.

Her Majesty received the Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho, at Buckingham Palace on the morning of November 3rd 2022.

Queen Camilla has long championed literacy and reading and chose it as the subject of her first individual audience since her husband’s accession.

Joseph Coelho was appointed as Children’s Laureate in 2022 and will hold the post for two years. He has a long career in performance poetry as well as playwriting. The role is given in recognition of outstanding achievement in the field of children’s literature and poetry. It was created in 1999.

Literacy is one of Queen Camilla’s favourite issues. She has been patron of a wide range of organisations encouraging reading and also started her own online book club on Instagram where she recommends favourite works and encourages discussion around them.
