King Charles III leads funeral procession for Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles III has led the Royal Family in the solemn procession behind the coffin of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

At 10.44 precisely, Her Late Majesty’s funeral procession began at Westminster Hall. Her coffin, draped in the Royal Standard and with the Imperial State Crown on top of it, was placed on the Ceremonial State Gun Carriage. The Orb and Sceptre lay before the Crown. Behind it was a magnificent wreath of pink and red flowers.

King Charles stood with his sister, the Princess Royal, and his two brothers, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex as the procession formed around them. Behind were the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex and Peter Phillips. The Duke of Gloucester and the Earl of Snowdon walked in the third row behind the coffin.

As the bands played and the bell of the Abbey tolled, the procession made its way to the doors of Westminster Abbey.

Queen Elizabeth’s four children paused at the door and watched as their mother’s coffin was taken from the carriage by the bearer party who slowly walked towards the ancient church.

At the Abbey, the procession was joined by other members of the Royal Family. The King took his place at the head of the line where he was joined by Queen Camilla. Princess Anne and her husband, Timothy Laurence, walked immediately behind, followed by the Duke of York and then the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The Prince and Princess of Wales walked behind them with their two elder children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex came next followed by Peter Phillips and the Earl of Snowdon. The Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent completed the royal procession for Her Late Majesty.
