The designs of the first bank notes to bear the image of King Charles III have been revealed.
The notes won’t enter circulation until 2024 but the Bank of England has now shared how the Monarch will appear on the currency.
His Majesty’s image will be seen on all four different bank notes issued – the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes. King Charles is featured on the front of the banknotes and also in a see through security window on the money.
The notes otherwise remain the same. The £5 will feature Winston Churchill on the reverse, Jane Austen will remain on the £10, JMW Turner is on £20 while the £50 note will continue to bear the image of Alan Turing.
Banknotes bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth II remain legal tender and will continue to be accepted until they wear out and have to be withdrawn from circulation. It means that money bearing the image of the two Monarchs will co-circulate.
King Charles III said, on his accession, that he wanted to limit waste and cost and so coins, banknotes and stamps weren’t changed immediately at the start of his reign.
