King Charles has started his annual summer holidays in Balmoral fresh on the heels of a bombshell announcement alleging that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move back to the United Kingdom by the end of August.
In a shock revelation from The Telegraph, Harry and Meghan—who departed the UK in 2020 to step back from their full-time working royal duties and to become financially independent—are planning a move back with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Sussex children will begin school in the UK at the end of summer, and sources close to the Sussexes confirm that the family will stay in a private, personal residence and not a royal residence and that they will not return to royal duties.
The news comes at a particularly quiet part of summer for the British Royal Family. King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at Balmoral Castle deep in the Scottish Highlands on Tuesday for their summer stay.
King Charles was greeted at Balmoral, the Royal Family’s longtime Scottish bolthole, by a Guard of Honour from The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
The Prince and Princess of Wales and their family are also on holiday, though they typically spend a week at Balmoral towards the end of August.
According to reports in The Daily Mail, King Charles was informed of Harry and Meghan’s move on Sunday.
Rebecca English wrote, that “It is understood that while he ‘welcomes’ the chance to see Harry and his family in a private and personal capacity, the King is clear that there will be ‘no alteration’ to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s role and status as private individuals and non-working members of the Royal Family in keeping with their ‘clearly expressed wishes and agreement over past years.’”
It has also been reported that William learned of Harry’s move back to the UK on Sunday as well.
