The Duke and Duchess of Sussex planning move back to UK

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reported to be planning a move back to the UK.

It comes six years after the couple left the country, eventually settling in California where they have lived ever since.

The Sun and The Daily Telegraph are both reporting that Harry and Meghan are set to return to the country imminently.

It’s understood King Charles was informed at the weekend that his younger son wants to bring his family to settle in the UK. It’s already been made clear there will be no change to the status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as private individuals as far as the Royal Family is concerned.

Harry and Meghan left their roles as senior members of the Royal Family in early 2020, stating that they wanted to pursue private business interests while continuing to take part in some royal events. That ‘half in half out’ arrangement was rejected by Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family and the couple moved to the US. Since then, they have begun a number of business ventures and have also taken part in several explosive TV programmes including a controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey in which they claimed a member of the Royal Family had made a racist remark about their son ahead of his birth.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the UK last month and had a brief meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in Gloucerstershire. At that point, there was no mention of the couple returning to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet.

Now, several papers are reporting that their return is imminent, possibly by the end of the month, as it is understood that Archie and Lili have been registered at schools in the UK.

There is no concrete detail on where the couple will live. They gave up their home at Frogmore Cottage when their departure from the Royal Family was made permanent in 2021. They also lived for some time at a grace and favour apartment in Kensington Palace.

Their return will prompt questions about whether they will be seen at big family events, such as Christmas at Sandringham, and major state events including Trooping the Colour.
