Top fashion designer, Stella McCartney, gave an elaborate curtsey to King Charles III as the two met again at Buckingham Palace.
The leading couturier first tried to curtsey to The King as he approached her as she waited alongside Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, at Buckingham Palace. They were among the guests at a reception to shine a spotlight on environmental issues, held in advance of the COP27 gathering.
King Charles and Stella McCartney have known each other for several years and so His Majesty greeted his friend with a kiss on each cheek, just as she began to curtsey. After watching him shake hands with the Prime Minister, Ms McCartney said ”I think I’m supposed to do this now” before dropping a deep curtsey. The King smiled and acknowledged her gesture.
Stella McCartney, also well know for her environmental work, was among the guests at the reception which marked the end of the UK’s presidency of COP26. King Charles, then still heir to the throne, hosted a reception marking that event last year. However, he decided not to attend COP27, in Egypt, following his accession to avoid any political controversy.
The reception brought together over 200 business leaders, NGO representatives and environmental campaigners at Buckingham Palace to discuss some issues including climate change and sustainable growth. It also provided an opportunity to examine the progress made since COP26.
The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference – known as COP27 – will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh and focus on a wide range of issues including adaptation to oceans and shipping and climate finance.
