First confirmation that King Charles III will replace Queen Elizabeth II on every day item

The first stamps featuring the silhouette of King Charles III will soon be appearing on letters in the UK.

The Royal Mail has announced that the definitive stamps, the small block colour editions with just a silhouette of the Monarch’s head on them, will soon feature The King.

Existing stock using the image of Elizabeth II will be released first to save money and not waste paper or resources. However, once they are used up, stamps featuring King Charles III will appear.

Special stamps, featuring the Monarch’s head in the corner, will also soon bear the image of The King. However, for the same reasons, editions already printed or designed will be released with the image of Her Late Majesty on them. Once all those stocks are exhausted, new stamps with Charles III on will appear.

Stamps bearing the image of Queen Elizabeth II will remain legal.

The announcement came as memorial stamps for Her Late Majesty were released. The four stamps all show photo portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and were approved by The King. However, as they show a full image of Elizabeth II’s face, no silhouette of either Monarch is required on the stamps as their country of origin is already deemed to be clear.
