The Earl of Wessex made a low-key visit to South Carolina on Monday despite the visit having been cancelled due to the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
Prince was due to visit the Southeastern state on, however, the visit was called off according to the Aiken Standard.
But according to the Court Circular and local media, The Queen’s youngest son’s visit was reorganised to be a relatively more low-key affair on the same day.
The Earl visited the city of Aiken as part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Real Tennis Tour.
He also attended a lunch in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Hurricane Florence struck South Carolina this week, with Aiken County being hit by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Tropical storm conditions continued to be present in Aiken over the weekend.
Prince Edward’s visit to the city was previously cancelled as a precautionary measure, taking into account the safety of his party and people who may want to come out to get a glimpse of the royal.
But, with the weather calming down and keen not to disappoint local residents, the visit went ahead as planned.
Prince Edward is currently on a 12-day tour of the United States as part of a year-long program to celebrate the activities of young people and volunteers around the world.
The Earl has left South Carolina and will undertake a day of engagements in Boston on Tuesday before travelling on to New York on Wednesday.
