Edward and Sophie in moving tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on a visit to Forfar

The Earl and Countess of Forfar have made a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as they visited their earldom.

The couple took part in a special Thanksgiving Service for Her Late Majesty during their day in Forfar.

The couple also carried out separate engagements in Forfar, Angus, which they have visited several times since Her Late Majesty gave them the Earl and Countess title on her youngest son’s 55th birthday in 2019.

The Earl visited Ogilvy Distillery, Scotland’s first dedicated potato distillery in Glamis. The distillery is located near Glamis Castle, his grandmother, The Queen Mother’s childhood home, and the birthplace of Her Late Majesty’s sister, Princess Margaret.

As for the Countess, she met youngsters at the town’s early learning centre. She was given a tour of all the facilities on offer at the centre including its sensory rooms and wraparound garden to encourage free flow play. Sophie also unveiled a plaque marking her visit.

However, the most poignant moment in the visit came at Lowson Memorial Church where the Earl and Countess took part in a special service to celebrate and honour the life and work of Queen Elizabeth II. The service was led by Kirk minister, the Rev Dr Karen Fenwick. Community ambassadors and civic dignitaries were also in attendance along with Angus volunteers involved in Operation Unicorn, which followed the death of Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral on September 8th 2022.

In the days following the death of Her Late Majesty, the Countess was seen comforting The Princess Royal as members of the royal family watched The Queen’s casket arrive in Edinburgh for its lie in rest at the Palace of Holyrood House. The casket had made its way from Balmoral, in northern Scotland to the Scottish capital before it was flown to London for the official state funeral. Her Latae Majesty was eventually be laid to rest at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

A few months prior to her death, the Earl and Countess accompanied Queen Elizabeth II for Scotland Week. They joined her for the first day of festivities as she marked the historic ceremony of the keys. The ceremony happens between the monarch and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh.
