The Edinburghs

A beaming Lady Louise drives Prince Philip’s carriage at the Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen watched her youngest granddaughter, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, take part in a carriage riding competition on Sunday.

17-year-old Lady Louise is following in the footsteps of her grandfather, the late Prince Philip with her love of carriage riding.

Over the weekend, Louise took part in the contest on the concluding day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Wearing a green outfit with matching hat, Louise rode in the carriage which once belonged to the Duke of Edinburgh.

The young royal took part in the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Meet of the British Driving Society which is held each year at the show.

Both the Earl and Countess of Wessex were in attendance to cheer on Lady Louise, as was The Queen who attended each of the four days of the show.

Louise is an avid competitor in her late grandfather’s favourite sport, carriage driving. She inherited Prince Philip’s carriages and ponies after his death in April.

The 17-year-old royal has competed in the competition before. In 2019, she finished in third place at the event, with The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh cheering her on from the crowd.

First held in 1943, the Royal Windsor Horse Show it is the only UK horse event that hosts international competitions in show jumping, dressage, carriage-driving, and endurance driving, and is the largest outdoor horse show.
