Staff from Chatsworth House lined the route to St Peter’s Church in
Edensor according to the estate.
At 11.15am the cortege departed the estate and travelled through
the park, arriving at Edensor at 11.50 for the funeral at noon.
The Prince issued a personal statement when the Duchess, the last
of the famous Mitford sisters died at the age of 94. He conveyed
his sadness of her death and noted that: “We shall miss her so very
much,” and that the Duchess “will not easily be forgotten.”
The Dowager Duchess was the youngest of the well-known Mitford
sisters. In 1941, she married Andrew Cavendish who later became the
11th Duke of Devonshire.
