Queen Camilla ‘deeply saddened’ at death of TV presenter Paul O’Grady

Queen Camilla is said to be “deeply saddened” at the death of TV presenter and comedian Paul O’Grady, who died on Tuesday evening at the age of 67.

Birkenhead born O’Grady, who was also one first mainstream drag acts television as Lily Savage, died “unexpectedly but peacefully.”

O’Grady was also widely known for his work with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and his devotion to rehoming dogs.

Queen Camilla worked closely alongside the television presenter in his Battersea campaigning efforts, and appeared alongside him in a TV documentary last year.

Her Majesty, who is Patron of Battersea, has written to O’Grady’s family to privately express her sympathies.

Meanwhile, the Royal Family’s official Twitter account paid tribute to the late TV star, saying: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Paul O’Grady, who worked closely with Her Majesty in support of Battersea, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.”

O’Grady’s husband, Andre Portasio, announced the unexpected death of his partner in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He said: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

“We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.”
