Princess Anne enjoys Ladies Day at Newmarket Racecourse

The Princess Royal spent Thursday afternoon at Newmarket Racecourse for the opening day of the Moet and Chandon July Festival.

Her Royal Highness dressed in a red floral coat and dress for Ladies Day, paired with a blue fascinator.

As part of her day at the races, Princess Anne presented the trophy presentation to the winners of the Tattersalls July States.

Later in the afternoon, HRH travelled by car to the other end of the racecourse where the start and loading stalls are located.

The 70-year-old Princess watched the horses being loaded in the starting stalls for the day’s feature race – the Princess of Wales’s Stakes.

Ahead of the race, Princess Anne had a good look over the horse that would go on to win in impressive fashion – Sir Ron Priestley.

Ridden by Franny Norton and trained by Mark Johnston, Sir Mark Priestley beat the well fancied Al Aasy, picking up £65,216 in prize money.

The Princess Royal is a huge horse racing fan and is involved with many equine charities and organisations.

Princess Anne took the place of her mother, The Queen, for much of Royal Ascot last month as the senior royal in attendance.

As part of her duties, Her Royal Highness presented the Gold Cup to the winning connections – a duty usually reserved for the monarch.
