A glittering palace but no tiaras at State Banquet in France

The King and Queen landed in France on Wednesday for their first State Visit to France for a new reign. On Wednesday evening, French President Emmanuel Macron hosted the couple and 160 guests at the Palace of Versailles for a State Banquet that was noticeably devoid of a key royal fashion item.

The State Banquet was held in the impressive Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

The Hall of Mirrors is the most recognisable room in the Palace, with the 73-metre room featuring 357 mirrors, 17 arches, and a great deal of gilding. The hall was originally created to highlight France’s historic successes and showcase the country’s immense wealth during Louis XIV’s reign. It continues to be a dazzling backdrop for events like these.

While Queen Camilla did wear a bespoke Dior gown and cape in addition to the George VI Sapphire Necklace and earrings from her own collection, she was notably not wearing a tiara.

The host of an event will set the dress code, and this state banquet was a black-tie event. It is not common to wear a tiara at a black tie event.

While it is unfortunate to have missed an opportunity to see one of the incredible tiaras from the British jewellery vaults, no other guests appeared to be wearing tiaras.
