Royal Christmas

Cherished Advent celebration marked by royals

Royals in Norway and Sweden have marked one of the most cherished Advent days.

In Norway, the Royal House shared a video on their Instagram of the Bolteløkka girls choir, dressed as St Lucia, in the halls of the Royal Palace. The girls wore white dresses with a red belt; each had a crown of candles on their head to portray St Lucia as they sang.

The Swedish Royal House shared two St Lucia posts on Instagram. The first was a photo of Princess Estelle (dressed as Lucia) and Prince Oscar wishing everyone well on the festive day. Estelle is also seen holding sweet treats for the celebration.
The second video was similar to their Norwegian counterparts. A video of students from the music school Lilla Academy in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace was shared. Students were dressed as St Lucia singing as they walked down the aisle.

St Lucia Day occurs every 13th December to honour Lucia of Syracuse – a martyr under persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.
