“The Crown” once again makes the Golden Globes nomination list

The nominations for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards have been announced, and once again, Netflix’s The Crown has made the list.

The show has been nominated for Best TV Series – Drama. Imelda Staunton is nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Elizabeth Debicki is also nominated for her role as Diana under the Best-Supporting Actress in a Drama TV Series category. Jonathan Pryce joins his nominated castmates on the list for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama TV Series for his role as Prince Philip.

This is not the first year the popular series has been nominated. In 2021, Emma Corrin took home the Best Television Actress – Drama Series award for her portrayal of Diana. Josh O’Connor, who played Prince Charles (now King Charles) in series 3 and 4, won Best Television Actor. Gillian Anderson also received an award for Best Supporting Actress for her work as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The role of Queen Elizabeth II has a pattern of taking home an award. Olivia Coleman won for her series 3 and 4 portrayals in 2020. And Claire Foy, who played Her Late Majesty in the first two series of the show, took home Best Actress back in 2017. The series has also been nominated several times for Best Drama and took home the award in 2017.

The 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on 10 January. The awards will air with its new change, including the splitting of an acting category in television and will honour both those in TV and film for their work.
