The royal palaces in Sweden are closed until further notice due to COVID-19.
The Royal Court announced that King Carl XVI Gustaf made the decision to temporarily close the palaces to help prevent the spread of the deadly virus. Royal parks will remain open.
The palaces closed today and will remain closed until further notice, “depending on the continued development. Pre-booked group shows, lectures and other program activities have already been cancelled,” the Royal Court said.
Pre-purchased tickets for entrances, screenings and program activities will be refunded for the time being that the palaces are closed.
The Governor of the Royal Palaces Staffan Larsson said, “This is a precautionary measure for the development of the coronavirus. The situation does not allow us to conduct public activities in the royal palaces. We are following the trend and look forward to welcoming our visitors again as soon as possible. We will increase our efforts to make exhibitions and castles available through our digital channels. The royal parks will also be open as long as nothing else is announced.”
The Royal House has encouraged people to follow and learn about the royal palaces digitally through their website and social media.
Sweden has 1,763 cases of COVID-19 and has had 20 deaths.
