Sweden’s Royal Family gathers for a magnificent dinner to celebrate pandemic efforts

The Swedish Royal Family hosted a large reception at Stockholm Castle at the end of April to celebrate the significant contributions made by the people of Sweden during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were present at the dinner along with Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia to celebrate those who have made significant contributions to Sweden in both locally and nationally.

Such dinners have been held periodically since the King’s 40th anniversary on the throne back in 2013, and are often called Sweden Dinners’.

Those invited to the dinner were representatives from different aspects of the country’s society, including those from cultural life, the business sector, health and medical care, education and sport. The 180 guests were received and greeted by the Swedish King and Queen in Lovisa Ulrika’s dining room on the Bernadotte floor at Royal Palace.

The guard quintet from the Army’s music corps entertained the guests before being served some of the finest food.

As a starter, attendees enjoyed Norwegian scallops from Hitra, iced crudites, aromatic herbs, horseradish, ginger emulsion and tagetes. For main course it was Ballotine of Rocklund-pork with green pepper, thyme, boiled artichoke, glazed spring primroses, nettles and top marbles “à la crème”. To end the meal, guests tucked in to a delicious desert – bavaroise on sea buckthorn, sorbet on pumpkin seeds and mousse of buttermilk and vanilla.
