Princess Madeleine posts new Instagram photo of “dear Nicolas”

Princess Madeleine of Sweden has posted a new photo of her son, Prince Nicolas, for his 6th birthday on her Instagram account.

The now six-year-old royal sits on what appears to be a golf cart with his head resting on the steering wheel. Princess Madeleine captioned the post: “Happy Birthday, dear Nicolas! We love you to the moon and back. Keep on truckin’!”

Many have commented on Madeleine’s post wishing the Prince well on his birthday, and the post has garnered over 26,000 likes since it was published early this morning.

Prince Nicolas of Sweden, who is tenth in line to the Swedish throne, was born on 15 June 2015 – just two days after his maternal uncle, Prince Carl Philip’s wedding to Sofia Hellqvist (now Princess Sofia) at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. Madeleine later revealed she was having contractions during the ceremony and was worried that Nicolas would be born during the wedding.

Nicolas Paul Gustaf is the second child and only son of Princess Madeleine and her American-British husband, Chris O’Neill. He has two sisters, Princess Leonore (b. 2014) and Princess Adrienne (b. 2018). His grandfather announced his name and duchy of Angermanland in a cabinet meeting two days after his birth.

Nicolas held the style of Royal Highness until October 2019, when his grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, revoked the style and position in the Royal House from the children of Princess Madeleine and her brother, Prince Carl Philip. Only the children of Crown Princess Victoria retained the Royal Highness style and place in the Royal House as they are in the direct line of succession.

Nicolas and his family live in Miami, Florida, where his father is employed.
