King’s Lynn – The Queen’s first Royal Ascot horse of 2021 – finishes in 7th place

The Queen’s first runner at the 2021 Royal Meeting finished in a respectable 7th place on Tuesday.

King’s Lynn, ridden by Oisin Murphy and trained by Andrew Balding, showed a good performance in the King’s Stand Stakes, but was outclassed by those in front.

17 horses lined up in the contest over five furlongs, with a prize of £198,485 available to the winner.

King’s Lynn was ridden towards the rear for the majority of the race, before moving to mid-field in the closing stages.

The four-year-old bay gelding ran at odds of 12/1. This means, if somebody put £1 on the horse to win and it did, they would win £12 back in prize money, plus their £1 stake, making a total of £13.

Unfortunately for the monarch, the horse did not finish in the prize money.

The Queen did not attend Royal Ascot in person on Tuesday to cheer King’s Lynn on.

She is, however, expected to attend the festival later in the week.

On Wednesday, the 95-year-old monarch will have two horses running.

Spring Is Sprung runs in the Windsor Castle Stakes and Pied Piper is declared for the Queen’s Vase – both are outsiders.

Although the monarch wasn’t present on the opening day of Royal Ascot, many members of her family were.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were the most senior members in attendance.

They were joined by the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal.

Zara and Mike Tindall were also spotted at the event, cheering The Queen’s horse on from the crowd.
